Kai Potgieter's profile

Star Wines ✧ Typographic Packaging Design

Introduction
SOGRAPE is a family brand that produces high-quality wines. They own LAN, Sandeman, and Mateus, and have vineyards in 12 wine-growing regions worldwide. Through their wines, they celebrate heritage, connect people, and offer wine tourism. They value tradition, innovation, eco-friendliness, and passion.

The primary objective was to achieve marketability, sustainability, and exclusivity in the design of fictitious wine packaging for four wines: Bordeaux, Albariño, Barolo, and Port.

The challenge lay in creating a successful design using only typography to effectively communicate the brand identity and message of SOGRAPE. Additionally, there was a secondary aim to develop sustainable secondary packaging to enhance the eco-friendliness of the product.
Concept
To convey the brand's sophistication and the adventurous aspect of my persona, I utilized a unique serif font with decorative ligatures. I also incorporated a star element into the design to represent the wine's star-quality and to enhance the typography's legibility. For a more prominent appearance, the design covers the entire label and is accompanied by a gridded design element that contains the wine's legal information, such as the year and alcohol content.

Labels
Dielines
The secondary packaging should reflect the product it contains. The packaging design should have a starry pattern on the inside, similar to the wine labels, to give it a touch of luxury. The packaging acts and looks like a gift bag, as it relates to the primary target audience and adds a sophisticated and luxurious appeal to it.
